Established over 32 years ago by proprietor Dave Gardner, The Antique Map Shop Ltd specialises in genuine antique maps, town plans, sea-charts, and other engravings from the sixteenth to the early twentieth century. Initially, Dave travelled the country buying and selling at various antique fairs, in the process making invaluable contacts within the antique map trade. The business at this time was named 'Earley Maps', after Dave's Berkshire home town.
When the firm moved to the historic city of Bath in south-west England, it was initially based at the Antiques Centre in Bartlett street. Now with our own premises, we can be found on one of the city's iconic eighteenth-century landmarks, Pulteney Bridge. We have been at this fabulous location for over 15 years now and it makes the shop very easy to find; we're just a five-minute walk from the famous Roman baths and Bath Abbey - just a stone's throw from The Rec, the home ground of Bath Rugby. In fact, we are now directly opposite the Bath Rugby ticket office.
A huge variety of maps comes through the shop, covering areas as small as a single town, right up to maps of the entire world shown in two hemispheres. We do not make copies of the maps, each map in the shop is labelled with the date that actual map was printed, which for the vast majority was at least 100 years ago. The Antique Map Shop Ltd guarantees this and each map comes with its own individual certificate of authenticity, similar to the one pictured right.
If a trip to Bath is not practical for you, we show a good selection of the shop's stock here on our website, where you can buy securely online, or contact us if you don't see the kind of map you are after. Enjoy the site and come back regularly, you never know what might be in stock...Thanks, Dave.
The Antique Map Shop Ltd is located on the city's iconic Pulteney Bridge, opposite the Bath Rugby Ticket Office and overlooking Pulteney Weir.
Inside the shop: boxes of genuine antique maps, labelled with their date of publication, mapmaker or publisher's name and organised by area. There are NO modern reproduction maps.
Pulteney weir - not a bad office view!
The Antique Map Shop Ltd guarantees all maps to be genuine and as dated. Each one has its own Certificate of Authenticity.
