Lorenz Fries (1485-1532)
From Alsace, eastern France, Fries relocated to Strasbourg, where he began associations with various scholars and craftsmen including Johann Grüninger, an already renowned publisher and printer for whom Fries is thought to have worked as a cagraphic editor.
The main project on which both Fries and Gruninger worked was a new edition of Ptolemy's Geographia. The content of this remarkable collection of Ptolemeic maps was reduced from Waldsemuller's 1507 master work, and various editions were published until the last in 1525.
