Robert Janvier worked in Paris in the second half of the eighteenth century, Jean Janvier produced a series of remarkable and beautiful copper engraved maps. It is for Atlas Moderne, first published in 1762 that Janvier is best known.
He is also known to have worked closely with engraver, Jean Lattre for several later editions of this work, as well a some attributed to by Charles Francois Delamarche and by Chez Remondini. Janvier also produced several maps used in general atlases, notably those published towards the latter part of the century by William Fadan and Piere Santini, a Venetian map maker who also used some of the work of Homann and de L'Isle.
